fat loss with apple

The diet and weight loss industry is one of the biggest among the top industries in Europe, America, Japan, and some other parts of the world. It is a multi-billion dollar industry with thousands of fade diets appearing each year. Due to this onslaught of information, people often miss easy, natural and safe ways to lose weight. Most information regarding the weight loss is either in-authentic or rehashed to squeeze some money out of people’s pockets. In this article, we are going to examine the effects of apple cider vinegar on weight loss.

So How Does it Help?

According to a report which was published in Medscape Journal of Medicine in 2006, ACV controls blood sugar levels. It regulates insulin production and stabilizes blood sugar which results in suppression of appetites and loss of craving for sugary foods and snacks. Consequently, we take fewer calories and so reduce our weight. It can also boost our metabolism to burn calories faster and reduce the overall amount of fat in our body.

It also detoxifies the intestines and eliminates all the waste and toxins deposited overtime. Healthy digestive system boosts the metabolic rate helping to melt the unused fat around the waistline and elsewhere in the body.

Sharon Daniels writes in “Apple Cider Vinegar Cures – Miracles Healers from the Kitchen.” that ACV has been used by people in North Africa for many centuries as a weight loss tonic. Sharon quotes a study conducted in 2005 in which it was noticed that subjects who took vinegar with the morning meal had 11 to 16% less caloric consumption throughout the day. That means these people would burn around 350 extra calories per day on average. Three hundred and fifty calories a day means around 3 to 4 pounds of weight reduction in a month time. Taking the conservative figure of 3 lbs a month means 36 lbs in a year time.

Sharon further mentions a study from the Central Research Institute of Mizkan Group Corporation in Japan. The study concluded that mice that were fed vinegar lost 10% more weight than then the controlled group.

Acetic Acid and Weight Loss

ACV contains acetic acid which is said to help in weight loss. A study reports that when subjects were given acetic acid for 12 weeks, they lost a significant amount of weight, waist circumference, triglycerides and abdominal fat. The study was publishes in 2009 in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry.

Pectin and Weight Loss

ACV is rich in pectin which lacks carbohydrate calories. Pectin is not absorbed by the body, but it helps the body to lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. It is even suggested that it can help prevent colon cancer.

According to research, pectin works in the stomach to slow its emptying process. This makes one feel full for longer time without any craving for more food. This results in less calories intake and more fat loss and reduction in weight.

Dr Jarvis, a well-known physician, analyzed several home remedies and noted down their effects. Dr Jarvis notes that following the apple cider vinegar regimen not only reduces weight but its effect is long term meaning that weight loss is permanent. He writes a general rule that if a woman of average height and weight of 210 pounds takes two teaspoons of ACV at each meal for two years, she will lose 30 pounds. This does not include any life-style changes such as eating fruit, vegetables and doing some exercise. With some life-style changes, replacing junk with healthy food, moderate exercise and avoiding high fat food may increase the rate of weight loss significantly.

In a landmark book on organic ACV, Patricia Bragg notes that more than a third of Americans are overweight and more than forty billion dollars are spent each year on diet plans and weight loss products. Such plans are mostly unrealistic, harmful and too hard to follow. Followers of these diets and plans have more stories of failures than success. Patricia Bragg recommends that these people need only tow things: the Bragg Life-style and the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

The same author also refers to a report published by the Diet Research Center in England which says that mixing organic ACV with extra virgin olive oil and massaging the body with the solution eliminates fats and cellulite. However, Patricia cautions that drinking ACV alone without replacing bad food with their healthy substitute simply does not work. In order to reap the weight reduction benefits of ACV, you must include organic fruit and vegetable in your food, she emphasizes.

Dr Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D. says that organic vinegar made of organic apples is a fat flushing drink. It burns fat because of the acetic acid and boots metabolism. It dissolves fats, prevents them from being stored and lowers blood sugar levels. Anne further reiterates that after taking the drink, you will feel less hungry and less bloated.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Olive Oil

Jolan, Jennifer who is the author of Apple Cider Vinegar – Old Fashioned Weight Loss & Health in a Bottle says that ACV may help you lose weight dramatically. Apple cider vinegar contains beta-carotene which is found naturally in colored produce such as carrots. Carotenes are the good stuff in beta-carotene. They are fat soluble. When they are eaten with fat, the body absorbs them. Once the body absorbs them, it gets more nutrients which destroy free radical in the body. Free radicals destroy and damage cells. But when these nutrients destroy free radicals, the fat in the body is easily broken down and the result is weight loss.

Jolan further suggest sprinkling olive oil and acv on salads as dressing. Olive contains healthy fat while acv contains beta-carotene. Thus your body gets good fats along with carotenes. The result is the fat melt down.

Does it Really Work, Then?

The apple cider vinegar diet and its effects on weight loss is mostly anecdotal rather than scientific. The research so far has not been very promising or not enough to establish the fact the acv drink reduces weight. According to Mayo Clinic, the diet does not work as there is no miracle ingredient. Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D of the Mayo Clinic advises that the only way to lose weight is burn more calories and consume less. She advises to eat healthy food in the form fruit and vegetables.

Dr Andrew Weil says that the proponents of the diet claim that it was used by ancient Egyptians. Dr Andrew rejects by saying it might have been ineffective for them as it is today. He calls the reviews in support of apple cider vinegar diet simply rave reviews by people who want to sell their products. He further suggests that weight loss requires commitment and making healthy choices rather than simply taking spoons of acids.
